Professional Statement

My goal in my professional life is to do work I love and have fun doing it. Being an ESFJ, I look for these elements in my assignments, as I know they are my job satisfiers:

• Daily interaction with people, be they teammates or customers, be it in person, over the phone, or over an instant messaging system.
• Details-oriented work as opposed to "big picture" work. Practical work as opposed to "abstract" work.
• A work environment that includes peoples' thoughts, desires, and needs in its mission, vision, and goals, and particularly in its policy-making decisions.
• Clear goals and expectations, schedules with milestone dates and deliverables, and short-term (ideally daily) sense of having accomplished something.

Academic Statement

My short-term academic goal is to complete my MS in Technical Communication, which is in progress. I am currently considering, as a long-term goal, completing the Ph.D. in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media program at North Carolina State University.

At this point, I have no great aspirations in academia, but the idea of one day being a college professor does appeal to me. I am a voracious reader, having been in up to three book clubs at one time. In March of 2005, I celebrated three years without owning a television. I'd rather read, or "do," than watch. I'm taking my classes at night, while working full time at IBM, and I'm just enjoying the intellectual stimulation.
